In early 2004, Hutchison Whampoa Limited announced its intention to spin off Hutchison Telecom in an initial public offering on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange. Hutchison Telecom listed on the SEHK under the symbol 2332 on 15 October 2004 and on the NYSE under the ticker HTX on 14 October 2004.
